Meet the Adventurers:
On this memorable trek, the hiking party comprised four enthusiastic participants, each bringing their unique flair to the adventure. Among them were Kayra, accompanied by her adventurous parents, Gouri Rajput and Narayan Padmanabha. Adding a wealth of experience and knowledge to the group was Mr. Appa, a seasoned mentor, cyclist, hiker, and camper with over 35 years of exploring landscapes and mountain ranges.

Hiking with Mr. Appa:
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the trek was the presence of Mr. Appa, a seasoned adventurer whose passion for the outdoors has only grown stronger with time. As a mentor, he brought not only his expertise but also a contagious enthusiasm for exploration. His wealth of knowledge about the region, coupled with his ability to make every trek an exciting learning experience, made him an invaluable companion for the group.
The hike kicked off at 9:30 am as the group disembarked from the bus they had taken from Panvel. Despite the sun casting its warmth, the weather was mercifully devoid of humidity, creating ideal conditions for a day of trekking. The route presented a mix of ascents and descents, keeping the journey engaging and suitable for participants of all ages.
The group successfully reached the summit by 1:00 pm and returned to the road by 5.00 pm, marking the end of an eventful day filled with stunning views and shared laughter. Throughout the trek, Mr. Appa’s guidance ensured that every participant felt not only safe but also inspired to delve deeper into the world of trekking.
How to reach the starting point of the trek?
To reach the trek’s starting point, board a bus from Panvel to Kharapada village along the Mumbai to Goa highway. As you traverse the village, commence the trek by navigating through picturesque paddy fields, eventually reaching the summit. Along the way, you’ll encounter Hazrat Peer Syed Badruddin Dargah, a mosque where freshwater is available. We enjoyed a serene lunch beneath the shade of the ancient mosque’s trees.
A Word of Trek Advice:
For those planning to embark on the Sankshi Fort Trek, it’s essential to come prepared. As Kayra and her family discovered, carrying enough water is imperative, as there are no freshwater sources available until the midpoint of the hike. A helpful tip from their journey is to keep an eye out for a mosque just before the mountain ascent, where fresh water can be found—a crucial pitstop to refuel and hydrate.

Conclusion:
The Sankshi Fort Trek proved to be an ideal escapade for hikers of all ages, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, historical exploration, and the joy of camaraderie. With Mr. Appa leading the way, the journey became more than just a hike; it transformed into an enriching adventure, leaving each participant with memories to cherish and a newfound appreciation for the great outdoors.
